Category status: what happens when you send a request

A page existing on this site does not mean we have someone standing by for that activity. Plenty of travel sites blur that line. This page is where we un-blur it: every activity category we publish, its current operational status, and exactly what does and does not happen when you submit the Experience Finder.

The short version, as of today: no activity category has an operator assigned, and no request is routed to any provider. Requests are stored, and we read them. We would rather publish that sentence than let a contact form imply something warmer.

What each status means

Guidance only
We publish research and decision help for this activity. No operator is assigned to it, nothing is routed anywhere, and a request creates no obligation on anyone's part.

We maintain six possible statuses in total — the others (collecting requests, introductions available, active partner, paused, retired) are defined but unused right now. A category can only move into a status that routes requests to someone once we have a named operator, a confirmed coverage area, a verified destination for the request and an agreed handling process on record. That rule is enforced when the site is built, not by memory.

What a guidance-only category will never claim

These are the specific implications we hold ourselves off of on any category without a documented operator. They are listed here so you can hold us to them:

  • real-time inventory
  • guaranteed pricing
  • a response deadline
  • an established partnership

So why send a request at all?

A fair question, and the honest answer is that it's useful to us before it's useful to you. Here is the trade as it actually stands:

  • We read every request, and what people ask for shapes which guides get written next
  • Demand in a category is what makes it worth approaching operators there — so a request is a vote
  • You get the Experience Finder's own summary of what fits your group, whether or not you send it
  • You are never added to a marketing list, and we don't sell or trade what you tell us

If what you want today is a confirmed boat on a specific date, contact an operator directly. Our booking-timing guide and the questions we'd ask them are written to make that call go well — that is the part of this we can genuinely do for you right now.

When this changes, it changes here first

If a category ever moves to introductions or an active partnership, this page shows it on the same day, the category hub shows the new status, and any paid relationship is disclosed where it applies. We review every status at least quarterly, and the review dates above are real commitments rather than decoration.
