For Key West operators

One founding partner per category. We are choosing them now.

Updated

Key West Compass helps travelers work out which activity actually fits their trip before they book anything. The founding partner in each category receives the inquiries that come out of that process — read by a person, passed on with the traveler's consent, and to one operator only.

What we do for travelers, and why that matters to you

Most Key West activity traffic arrives at a booking page and is asked to choose immediately. The traveler does not yet know whether a reef trip or a sandbar day suits their group, whether their nervous swimmer will be fine, or whether a private charter is worth the difference. So they compare on price, because price is the only thing they can compare.

We publish the layer that goes before that: decision guides that compare formats honestly, say who each activity does not suit, and answer the questions a good operator ends up answering by phone anyway. Travelers who then send us an inquiry have already done that thinking.

That is the whole proposition. Not more inquiries — better-formed ones, from people who understand what they are asking for and who have chosen to be contacted.

Where we actually are, stated first

We are new. No category has an operator today, and we have no traffic history, no inquiry history and no conversion data to quote you. Anyone in this business who hands you a number this early is guessing, and we would rather you heard that from us than found it out later.

What we can show you is the asset: the guides, the decision tools, the editorial standards, and a published category status page that tells travelers the truth about what we can and cannot do. That page is why an introduction from us is worth taking.

What we can actually evidence

Every number below is computed at build time from the same registry that generates the pages, so it cannot drift from reality without the site failing to build. None of them is an audience figure, and the section beneath says exactly which figures we do not have.

What we cannot tell you, and will not estimate

  • Page views, sessions, unique visitors or impressions — no analytics history has been accumulated for this site
  • Search volume, keyword rankings or search-position estimates for any category
  • Inquiry counts, by category or in total
  • Conversion rate from a page view to an inquiry, or from an inquiry to a booking
  • Bookings, revenue or trip value, ours or anyone's
  • Response, acceptance or rejection rates for inquiries passed to an operator
  • Any comparison against another Key West site's performance

Not withheld — absent. Every one of these needs traffic history the site has not yet accumulated. A figure produced from anything else would be a forecast, and a forecast printed next to real counts reads as a measurement. When these exist, they will appear here dated, and an operator will be able to check them against their own inbox.

Every count on this page is computed at build time from the registry that generates the pages themselves. Nothing is typed in by hand.

That means a count cannot drift from reality without the site failing to build — but it also means a count measures published surface, not audience. Those are different things and we will not blur them.

Open the routes listed beside each number. If a count and the site disagree, the count is the bug.

The founding position

What it includes

  • The single founding partner position in one activity category, for the Key West market
  • Traveler inquiries naming that category, reviewed by a person and passed on with the traveler's consent
  • The context travelers give us — group, dates, budget band, private or shared, priorities — not just a name and a number
  • A disclosed placement on the category hub and its decision guides
  • Direct access to us during the pilot, including what travelers are actually asking for in your category

What it does not include

  • No promised number of inquiries — we do not forecast volume we have not measured
  • No guarantee of bookings, revenue or conversion
  • No influence over what our guides say about your activity or who it suits
  • No priority, ranking or placement in search engines
  • No permanent claim on the category — exclusivity lasts for the agreed pilot term and is renewed by agreement
  • No lead qualification, quoting, availability checking or closing — all of which stay with you

This is a paid commercial pilot, not free lead delivery that runs indefinitely. The founding rate is settled in the conversation rather than published here — partly because it depends on the category, and partly because we are not going to post a price we have not yet tested against a real operator's judgement.

The founding position is one of four participation levels, and the other three are worth reading before you decide this one is what you want. What each level is, and what it is not sets them out side by side, including the sentence that is identical on all four: none of them changes what a traveler is shown.

Who we are looking for

The position is limited to one operator per category, so fit matters more than speed. These are the conditions, applied the same way to everyone:

  • You operate the activity yourself in Key West or the surrounding Lower Keys — not a reseller or booking aggregator
  • You hold the licensing and insurance your activity requires, and can confirm it
  • You can respond to an inquiry within one business day during your operating season
  • You quote honestly, including telling a traveler when your trip is the wrong fit for them
  • You are comfortable being the only operator we introduce in your category during the pilot

Category ownership is limited, and it is subject to fit and availability — if we do not think a category suits your operation, we will say so on the call rather than take the money.

How the founding period actually runs

  1. Step 1

    Conversation

A call to understand your operation, your season, the trips you most want filled, and whether the category fits. We qualify each other; either side can walk away.

  2. Step 2

    Pilot terms

A short written term sheet covering category, market, term length, payment timing, response expectations and how an invalid inquiry is handled. Plain language, no lock-in beyond the term.

  3. Step 3

    Activation

Your category state changes in the site's activation registry, the disclosure appears on the pages where the placement runs, and the category status page updates the same day.

  4. Step 4

    Manual delivery

Every inquiry is read by a person before it reaches you. Nothing is auto-forwarded, auto-scored or sold to more than one operator.

  5. Step 5

    Honest review

At the end of the term we look at what actually happened — how many inquiries, how they landed, what they were worth to you — and decide together whether to continue.

Inquiries are reviewed and routed by hand throughout the founding period. That is slower than an automated system and deliberately so — it is how we keep a bad-fit inquiry off your desk and how we learn what your category actually produces.

The five categories

One founding partner may be selected per eligible category. Each page below sets out what travelers in that category are trying to decide, what an inquiry can contain, and what makes an operator a strong fit.

What we are, and what stays yours

Key West Compass is an independent decision-support and matching platform. We are not a tour operator, a booking engine, a travel agency or an official tourism body. We operate no vessels, employ no crew, hold no inventory and take no payments for trips.

Responding to inquiries, quoting, checking availability, licensing, safety, insurance, service delivery and closing the sale all remain entirely yours. A placement changes who hears about you. It does not change who runs your business.

It also does not buy editorial treatment. Paid placement is disclosed where it appears, and our recommendation methodology does not bend for it. That constraint is the reason a traveler trusts the introduction, so it protects your inquiry quality as much as it protects them. The page travelers read about it is how paid placement works, and it says the same thing to them as this page says to you.

Start with a conversation, not a contract

The application takes a few minutes and asks only what qualifies an operator. If you would rather find out first whether it is worth the time, the self-check answers that in two minutes without sending us anything. If the category fits, we arrange a call, talk through what a pilot would look like for your season, and send a plain-language term sheet. Nothing is committed until you say so.
