Rain Day Checklist
For the morning a trip gets moved, cancelled or rained on.
Print this before you need it. The reason weather ruins trips isn't the weather — it's groups deciding what to do while standing in it, disappointed.
First, an honest reset: rain rarely cancels anything here. Wind and lightning do. A shower is usually just scenery on a trip you're already getting wet on.
First, check what's actually happening
- Called or messaged the operator rather than guessing from an app
- Confirmed whether they're cancelling, rerouting to calmer water, or running as planned
- Confirmed what happens to your payment — refund, credit or reschedule
- Asked about the next available slot inside your remaining days
- Resisted cancelling on your own (that usually triggers your cancellation terms, not theirs)
What often still runs
- Fishing, in most rain without lightning
- Snorkel and sandbar trips under passing showers
- Sunset outings — gray evenings often break open at the horizon
- Backcountry and lee-side trips when wind rules out the reef
Low-exposure alternatives
Confirm current hours and any ticketing directly — they change seasonally.
- Museums and historic houses in and around Old Town
- A long, unhurried lunch instead of a quick one
- Covered markets and shops off the main strip
- Shaded historic streets between showers
- Aquarium or indoor nature attractions
- The nap you weren't going to admit you wanted
Protect the rest of the trip
- Moved the cancelled activity to your slack day, not your departure day
- Re-checked the following day's plan with the operator
- Kept the group's expectations low for today and specific for tomorrow
- Noted anything you now need to re-book
Confirm directly with your provider
These depend on the operator and the day. We don't publish them because we can't know them for your booking.
- Whether they're cancelling, rerouting or running
- Refund, credit or reschedule terms in writing
- Next available departure within your dates
- For cruise passengers: their policy when there is no tomorrow
Fill this in
- Operator called at (time)
- What they said
- New slot, if rescheduled
- Today's replacement plan
